Rumours of Summer “living is hard You never know just what you’ll find.” She watches his lips With the volume turned down in her mind. And it’s only 8.30 The glasses are dirty And the Saturday boys Are all Saturday joys. It’s the first drink he’s tasted but he’s always felt wasted And she stares at the wall To be done with it all. Never despair, for sun always follows the rain. And nothing is sudden It’s always a slow march From sowing to grain. There’s a line in the sand. See what the tide’s left behind. A jumble of cares. The sea can be cruel, can be kind. And for every mistake, False start and out-take There’s a thin jagged trace Through the lines on her face. And the King Tide retreats With triumphant defeat And the deafening roar Of an army at war. Never despair, for sun always follows the rain. And nothing is sudden It’s always a slow march From sowing to grain. A carnival band wove through the street long ago scattering tunes to a young girl at the edge of the show. And it’s not that she’d ever Trade place with a beggar Or banish belief To the mind of a thief, But a cushion of sweetness, an hour of completeness Might be what she needs To pull petals from weeds. Never despair, for sun always follows the rain. And nothing is sudden It’s always a slow march From sowing to grain.

about

"This is a CD that really deserves close listening. The tunes vary from catchy, haunting to surprising and the arrangements are varied with wonderful musicianship but it's Christina's words that give the reason for this challenging and rewarding listen ... I thoroughly recommend this first hearing of a fine songwriter with wonderful musicians and arrangements." - Frankie Armstrong, Folk Rag 2012
